چکیده

A Carmichael number (or absolute pseudo-prime) is a composite positive integer n such that n|an − a for every integer a. It is not difficult to prove that such an integer must be square-free, with at least 3 prime factors. Moreover if the numbers p = 6m + 1, q = 12m + 1 and r = 18m + 1 are all prime, then n = pqr will be a Carmichael number. However it is not currently known whether there are infinitely many prime triplets of this form. Indeed it is not known whether or not there are infinitely many Carmichael numbers with 3 prime factors. None the less it was proved by Alford, Granville and Pomerance [1] that there are infinitely many Carmichael numbers. Let C3(x) denote the number of Carmichael numbers n ≤ x having ω(n) = 3. It has been conjectured by Granville and Pomerance [3] that

Numbers of the form (6m+1)(12m+1)(18m+1) where all three factors are simultaneously prime are the best known examples of Carmichael numbers. In this paper we tabulate the counts of such numbers up to 10 for each n ≤ 42. We also derive a function for estimating these counts that is remarkably accurate.

Constructing Carmichael numbers through improved subset-product algorithms

We have constructed a Carmichael number with 10,333,229,505 prime factors, and have also constructed Carmichael numbers with k prime factors for every k between 3 and 19,565,220. These computations are the product of implementations of two new algorithms for the subset product problem that exploit the non-uniform distribution of primes p with the property that p − 1 divides a highly composite Λ.

We describe an algorithm for constructing Carmichael numbers N with a large number of prime factors p1, p2, . . . , pk. This algorithm starts with a given number Λ = lcm(p1 − 1, p2 − 1, . . . , pk − 1), representing the value of the Carmichael function λ(N). We found Carmichael numbers with up to 1101518 factors.
